Tools for Kids
Gardening with kids is a beautiful thing, says Steve Orr of House and Garden
Magazine when on The Saturday Early Show. Besides brightening up a corner of
your yard, he explains, a garden teaches children about the cycle of the
seasons, opens their eyes to the wonders of nature, gives them a taste of
patience, and perhaps a small, but healthy, taste of disappointment.
Orr believes kids naturally love to play in the dirt. But to pique their
interest in the process of planting and tending flowers, he suggests supplying
them with their own garden tools.
He says to look for tools that easily fit into kids' hands. And while the tools
may be small and brightly colored, they should still be sturdy and useful.
Based on his
information, we were able to spot companies with quality and popular
brands of kids garden tools; but first, you may need to cover some
ground rules for your child.
Equally, make children aware of dangerous plants and the hazards of
eating them. Kids have a tendency to use all their senses to explore -
touch, smell, sight, sound and unfortunately taste is a big one for
them! The smaller the child, the bigger the urge to stuff everything
into their mouth and plants (and snails) are no exception.
You will need to supervise you children all the while they are playing
in the garden until they are old enough to learn that they must not
touch or eat the plants. Many parents find that it's possible to fence
off a safe area of the garden near the house for their child to play in.
Some flexible playpen systems are suitable for use in a garden as well.
Some plants can also cut quite badly such as pampas grass whose long
stems are extremely sharp and can easily slice your hand. Also point out
things like holly or roses, which have pointy leaves and thorns.
Once the safety tips are covered, it's time to have fun with the kids
gardening tools!
www.FarmGoodsforKids.com believes that
gardening tools can encourage kids to play out in the sun and help
parents with gardening. This will teach kids about our environment,
along with how to be responsible and care for something.
The gardening
tools that we have picked out are carefully designed with your child in
mind. These realistic tools allow children to have fun in the garden
just like adults and will last for several seasons. These quality brands
